Washer leaking during fill? Find the first wet point
Stop the water safely, record the cycle timing, and separate supply, dispenser, door, overfill, internal, and drain-path leaks.

Use the first wet location and cycle timing to separate supply, dispenser, door, overfill, internal, and household-drain leaks.
Water that appears while a washer is filling points first to the pressurized supply path, dispenser, door seal, or an overfill. Stop the cycle from a dry position, close the hot and cold supply valves if they are safely reachable, and keep people away from water near the cord, outlet, or controls.
My opinion: do not run a second load just to make the puddle bigger. The first wet location and the minute it appeared are the evidence. Dry the area only when it is electrically safe, then inspect visible connections with the machine off.
Record timing before the water travels
Note whether the leak begins as soon as a household valve is opened, only when the washer admits water, when the dispenser flushes, after the tub level rises, or during drain and spin. Mark the first wet point: wall valve, hose end, rear panel, dispenser, front door, standpipe, filter area, or underneath. A puddle can travel under the cabinet and misidentify its source.
Photograph hose routing, floor wetness, model label, selected cycle, load, detergent type and amount, and any code. Do not step into water to reach a plug or breaker. Active heavy flow, smoke, sparking, a hot cord, or water at electrical equipment requires urgent qualified help.
Inspect the pressurized path with the valves closed
Check both visible inlet hoses from the household valves to the washer. Look for damp couplings, mineral tracks, cracks, abrasion, bulges, sharp kinks, or a hose stretched tight. Whirlpool says both ends need hose washers and secure connections. If a hose body, coupling, or household valve leaks, leave the supply closed until the correct part or plumbing repair is complete.
Do not tighten a wet connection under pressure, reuse a damaged hose, add tape where the manufacturer calls for a hose washer, or pull the washer far enough to strain the drain, cord, or gas connection on a combination unit. Use the exact appliance and hose instructions. A wall valve that leaks with the appliance isolated is a plumbing job.
Separate dispenser and door leakage from an internal source
On a front loader, inspect the ordinary-access door glass and gasket for a trapped item, hair, residue, tear, or folded section. Check that the dispenser drawer is fully closed and clean only its removable pieces as the manual directs. Whirlpool states that a clogged or partly open dispenser can leak as water flushes through it.
Record heavy suds. Use only the detergent type and amount specified for the machine and load; do not add another chemical to collapse foam. A torn gasket, leak below the cabinet, continuing fill after the cycle stops, or water level that keeps rising needs appliance service. Do not open panels, tip the washer, or reach underneath to chase the source.
Check the drain side only if the timing points there
A standpipe can overflow while the washer pumps out, which is different from a fill leak. Observe the visible drain hose and standpipe from a dry location. If water rises around the standpipe or laundry sink, stop the test and call a plumber for the household drain. Do not force the hose deeper, seal the standpipe airtight, or repeat pump-out cycles into a restricted drain.
Close the job with a dry full cycle
Send service the timing log and first-wet-location photo. Ask whether the diagnosis was a household valve, inlet hose, appliance valve, dispenser, gasket, level control, internal hose, tub, pump path, or drain. After repair, verify dry connections during fill, stable water level, no dispenser or door leakage, and a clear drain. Save the replacement parts and repair record with the home maintenance file.
